Florida Hanmadang Rules

Divisions
4-7 years old: Child
8-9 years old: Youth
10-12 years old: Youth 2
13-17 years old: Teen
18-30 years old: Adult
31-45 years old: Adult 2
45- 54 years old: Senior
55 and Up: Senior 2
All events will be separated into male and female with the exception of team and demonstration team events.
Participants will be divided into groups as fair as possible. Occasionally divisions outside of the above guidelines will be created at the discretion of the tournament committee. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place award medal and certificate. All other competitors will receive a participation certificate.
All certificates will be emailed following the tournament
Uniform: Participants should wear a clean uniform of their school’s style with a correctly tied belt. Shoes are not allowed on the mat.

Individual Traditional Poomsae:
1. Participants will be judged on Technique, Presentation, Spirit, Correct Sequence
2. Deductions may come from the following: Crossing outside of the ring, Exceeding the 90-second time limit, Unsportsmanlike conduct
3. Tiebreaker
a. Tie 1st place: Participants will perform the poomsae once more. New scores will be given. If there is still a tie, both will receive first place.
b. There will be no tie breakers for 2nd and 3rd place, multiple certificates will be awarded

Creative Breaking
1. Participants will be judged on Creativity, Presentation, Degree of Difficulty, Execution, Spirit
2. Participants have 60 seconds to set up their breaking pattern and 60 seconds to execute their breaks.
3. Participants will break a certain number of bards based on their rank as follows:
White, Yellow and Orange - 2 Boards
Green, Purple, Blue - 3 Boards
Brown, Red - 4 Boards
Black - 5 Boards
The board fee is $3 per Board per participant
4. Any part of the body used for breaking may not be covered by any material including bandages and tape. If an injury needs to be covered it must be approved by the referee before the start of the participants division.
5. No Props
6. Participants should have board holders ready. Holders will only be allowed on the mat during their participant’s turn. Uniforms are not required (although encouraged) for board holders. Shoes are not allowed on the mat.
7. Each technique may be attempted a maximum of 3 times.
9. Deductions may come from Over the 60-second time limit for setup, Over the 60-second time limit for breaking, Exceeding the maximum of 3 attempts, Unsuccessful board break, Crossing outside of the ring (No deduction if their holder crosses outside of the ring), Unsportsmanlike conduct
10. 1st place only tie: Participants will perform breaking routine one more time each. New scores will be issued. Two 1st places will be awarded if there is a tie a second time. No tie breakers for 2nd and 3rd place.
Knife Hand Power Break
1. Each participant will have one attempt to break with a Knife Hand
2. The participants will attempt to break boards with no spacers.
3. Boards may not be taped together.
4. The participants will have 60 seconds for set up
6. Once the referee gives the signal to begin, the participant's break must be completed within 30 seconds
7. Participants must use the side of the palm (side of the little finger to side of the wrist). Fingers may be bent. The hand cannot be closed in a fist position.
8. Participants may not use bandages, tape or any other material to cover the breaking hand. Any injuries that need to be covered must be approved by the referee.
9. Participants will complete a form that states the number of boards they will attempt to break prior to the start of their division. This will be done privately and used in the case of a tie, see below.
10. The participant who breaks the most boards will be declared the winner.
11. In the event the same number of boards are broken, the participant who attempted to break the greatest number of boards, according to their form, will receive a higher score.
12. In the event of a tie for 1st place, there will be 1 additional board added. Ties for second and third place will receive multiple certificates.
13. There will be a $7 flat fee per participant to cover the costs of boards
Highest Jumping Front Kick
(Free event with registration)
1 A maximum of 30 seconds to attempt to break the board with Running Jumping Front Kick.
2. Participants have only one attempt to break the board per round.
3. The breaking foot may not be covered with any material including bandages and tape. Any injuries that may need to be covered must be approved by the referee before the start of the participants division.
4. The running distance and starting board height will be determined by the referee.
5. The shortest participant will attempt to break first and the order will continue by increasing height.
6. The board must break by an upward kicking technique to be considered successful and for the participant to advance to the next round.
7. Once a participant approaches the board, they may not turn around and restart.
8. At the end of each round, the board will be raised to a new height at the discretion of the referee.
9. The participant who breaks the highest board will be the winner.
10. A tie breaker for first place only will be conducted as follows: the height of the board will be raised until one of the participants FAILS to break the board. In the case that both fail on the same height, the shortest participant will be awarded 1st place. There will be no ties for 2nd and 3rd place, multiple awards will be given.
Team Traditional Poomsae:
( All ages, All ranks, 2 - 5 Team Members, Participants can only be on ONE team)
1. Participants will be judged on Technique, Presentation, Spirit, Correct Sequence, synchronization
2. Deductions may come from Crossing outside of the ring, Exceedsing the 90-second time limit, Unsportsmanlike conduct
3. Tiebreaker
a. Tie 1st place: Participants will perform the poomsae once more. New scores will be given. If there is still a tie, both will receive first place.
b. There will be no tie breakers for 2nd and 3rd place, multiple certificates will be awarded
The poomsae performed should be that of the lowest ranking team member
Demonstration Team
(5-25 Team Members, All Ages, All Ranks)
All Teams must have a TEAM NAME and a TEAM CAPTAIN
THE WINNING TEAM WILL PERFORM DURING THE CLOSING CEREMONIES!

Performances should be a combination of Taekwondo techniques, creative elements, choreography and it is highly recommended to include music.
2. Weapons are allowed: Only martial arts weapons. Weapon blades must be dull.
3. Teams are required to bring their own boards. There is no requirement on number of breaks as long as they are completed within the time limit.
4. There will be 2 minutes allowed for set up
5. There will be 7 minutes allowed for performance (this does not include the set up time)
6. Music must be family friendly and appropriate. Music must be provided via email one week prior to tournament in digital format. Please also bring it to the tournament on a bluetooth capable device as back up.
7. Props are allowed: Teams must provide their own props. Props can not pose a safety risk to the team performing, other participants or the audience. NO Pyrotechnics, fireworks (including poppers), no flames, no confetti, glitter or similar items that may be dangerous or difficult to clean up. Chairs and trampolines are not allowed.
8. Teams will be judged on Unity of Team, Synchronization, Creativity, Spirit, Accuracy, Execution, Technique

Keep in mind, judges are aware of intentional choreography that has different team members doing different things. The above deductions are for obvious mistakes when there is no ripple, echo, or other non synchronized choreography.
